During June 2025, The IN/LAB-team participated in seminars and panels at Järvaveckan and Almedalen - two of Sweden’s most well-known events for civic dialogue, politics, and societal innovation.

Järvaveckan focuses on inclusion, diversity, and bridging the gap between citizens and decision-makers, while Almedalen Week brings together politicians, businesses, and organizations for open discussions on key societal issues.

Järvaveckan - "The Future of News in an AI-Driven World – What Do Young People Think?

At Järvaveckan, IN/LAB arranged a seminar together with Schibsted and F1rst, were we discussed the technological shift where AI is rapidly transforming how news is created – and how it is received. Young people are at the forefront of AI usage and represent the next generation of news consumers – making it essential to include their perspectives. That’s why we teamed up with the organization F1RST to explore these topics together!

🔹 Belenn Rebecka Bekele (Program Manager, IN/LAB) och Molly Grönlund Müller (Community researcher, IN/LAB) shared insights from the IN/LABs project "AI, news och youth" – here are 7 summarized key takeaways and additional insights about the project.

Almedalen - Panels on Innovation, AI and the younger generation

At the Almedalen week, IN/LAB participated in two panel discussions and took part of two days of insights and inspiration — from across the media industry and beyond other industries. We followed political speeches, exchanged ideas, and engaged in exciting conversations ✨

🤖 Louise Barkenäs (Interim Head of IN/LAB) joined a conversation on AI and news innovation together with representatives from the media industry such as Aftonbladet, NTM and Dagens media. The discussion highlighted how AI can help address some of today’s media challenges such as trust and innovation deficit.

🎙️ Esam Touma (Content & community specialist at IN/LAB) joined a panel with representatives from SVT Nyhetskoll, Aftonbladet, UR and 16-year-olds from Visby Gymnasium. Together, they discussed how to reach the next generation of media consumers — a vital topic for the future of journalism and democracy. Esam shared examples from IN/LAB’s co-creation work with youth, including tangible ideas that became real - "Talk with young people, not about them."

💡 Our conclusion? We’re optimistic about the power of AI and innovation to reach new (and keep) audiences — and convinced that we need to continue to experiment boldly.

Thank you for this year and hope to be back next year!
